Microsoft Research

Research Intern at Redmond

IoT(MSR) and Xbox team (June 2015-Oct 2015)

  • Worked closely with the XBOX Team to design the next generation of wireless communication protocol between the XBOX and accessories.

  • Implemented the proposed MAC(/PHY) protocol design in simulation – QualNet (C++) and showed improved performance results compared with existing protocol in terms of low-latency (few milliseconds) and high speed of wireless link.

  • Started working on actual hardware implementation with basic driver hacking and kernel programming.

  • Developed techniques to reduce the time to switch from Access Point(AP) when using Wi-Fi Direct - A challenging problem that has not yet been solved in the wireless industry.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.

Worked as Assistant Manager from 2010-2012.

  • Designed an automated lift for transferring painted car chassis from vehicle trolleys to slat conveyer at AB-On of multi-model assembly line for Maruti-800 and Omni models. This automation increased the production by 96 vehicles/day and helped MSIL to achieve its production target for the year 2010.  Received the Best Project award for the same

  • Ride and handling of vehicles: Part of the 3-member core team for ABS brake design at MSIL, developed an algorithm on Matlab for automation of brake noise detection as part of ride and handling testing, thus reducing detection time (manual) from 72 hours  to 30 seconds. Received Best Performance award for the same and further work was carried out to reduce the brake noise (squeal).

  • Coordinated and organized training sessions for R&D vertical

  •  Filed Provisional Patent in India as inventor (by Maruti Suzuki India Limited), 2012 for Wheel Speed Sensing Device(WSSD) for ABS vehicles. The WSSD is a light-weight compact unit which can be easily attached to the ABS unit of a vehicle to get the wheel speeds of all four wheels. This information can be further utilized for many applications.

At University of Iowa

  • Working on theoretical and simulation results for joint beam and null forming using distributed antenna arrays by adjusting weights applied to signals at transmit antenna array. Developing algorithms and studying their scalability properties.

  • Working on Software Defined Radio experimental setup to implement a pre-synchronised (frequency and phase) antenna array on USRP test-bed for first demonstration of fully wireless distributed nullforming using reciprocity. Once synchronized, the transmit array of size N can be used for distributed distributed MIMO applications.

Prior work

At IIT Bombay -Summer Research Intern

Signal Processing and artificial neural networks lab (May 2008 – July 2008 & May 2009 – July 2009):

Image Processing based Surveillance System-

Developed Matlab based algorithm for ' Differentiation of Cattle from humans based on body ratios and human skin detection' using Image processing techniques like Image subtraction. This can be used to detect cattles in the college campus with 91.5% efficiency.

Multi-Focus Image Fusion Algorithm-

Developed this algorithm using Iterative Segmentation based on Edge Information and Adaptive Threshold for fusion of various source images into one single image where all objects are in focus. (see publications)

At BIT Mesra

Development of Automation System for Prototype Power Distribution system-

Developed a small-size single-phase distribution system and its automation system (lab prototype) for monitoring using LabVIEW software, NI-ELVIS hardware board and microcontroller(Atmega 16). Using this system commercial losses in power distribution can be reduced to upto 40%. Received R&D Grant of Rs.50,000 from IEI India Org., Sep 2009.

Line follower robot using parallel Port processing (1st runner up in robotics competition)-

Used L293D motor driver to drive DC motors of robot. Wrote code in C for controlling robot’s movement using the    arrow keys of the keyboard.
